My intention behind the first month of the Vow of silence was to receive visions of yet-to-be-brought to existence paintings from the Life Force collection. I wanted to listen to what the universe had to say to guide me through this project.
I wanted to free up some space in my creative realm. Let me explain, there are five stages of creativity. The first one is the information-gathering phase, where we research everything we need for the intended project to get inspired. The second stage is the incubation process, where we go into a meditative state, allowing the information collected to simmer and digest.
Meditative states, for example, can happen when we sit on the meditation pillow or when we take a shower, go for a walk, or even drive a car. The third stage is the eureka, the big "AHA moment" when all the pieces fall together. We develop the idea, solution, and process for our envisioned project. What a feeling! Following this is the verification process. Not all ideas are worth executing, this is why the first stage is so crucial. We need to put all the necessary pieces into our creative machine to increase the chances of brilliance. The fifth stage is implementation, the most critical part of the project, bringing it to fruition. Making dreams a reality.
Creativity is something that I love to foster. This is why a Vow of silence seemed like a gift from above. Removing distractions from the outside world it ensured that my information input would not be filtered. One of the rules of my Vow of silence was to delete all of the social media apps as I cannot control what I see on my phone and wanted to stay within the scope of relevance to the Life Force collection. Silence is a perfect container for the incubation process as being in silence increases the depth of reflection. “Eureka” moments are almost guaranteed in these perfect creative conditions.
The silence became my spiritual and creative practice. Through long hours of meditation and full disconnection from the world, I started to have vivid visions of the paintings. When the vision would appear, I did not know the exact meaning until I sketched it out and could see the truth hidden within. To create this collection, I became a vessel bringing the visions from the cosmos into existence. I was able to reach states of consciousness that I never thought could be possible for someone living in a busy modern world.
It was fascinating for me to learn that with good intention, determination and devotion we can become antennas of change. I hope to share this intentional practice with other creatives to help facilitate the opening of their creative channels. Whether spiritual quests are explored for the sake of creative exploration, our consciousness will result in a multitude of discoveries. Disconnecting from the world's distractions benefits the artist and the planet.
